Which browser should I use to fill in the application form?
This site relies on JavaScript and cookies. Any modern browser should do.
What does "essay" mean?
Some of the faculties require an essay to be submitted as part of the application. Details on essay topic(s) can be found on the faculty web site in the section for degree programme applicants. Or directly in an Application directive of your desired study programme(course).
Can I choose my own essay topic?
Yes. Some faculties allow this. However, if you apply for a doctoral course, be sure to discuss your own topic with your future supervisor. If you are applying for the Faculty of Management and Economics, you must also upload a PDF with Supervisor Statement, confirming your future supervisor's written consent with your choice of topic.
When do I have to pay the study fee?
You are required to pay the study fee AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN ENROLLED IN STUDY (within 30 days after your enrolment). There are no other fees attached to the application, but for final admission you must provide also a document recognizing your previous foreign level of study or have your previous education recognized – which will cost you CZK 870–3,000 (depending on which type of recognition you choose). Annual tuition fees differ from faculty to faculty. Generally, they range from CZK 45,000–67,500 (EUR 1,800 to EUR 2,700) per year. It is possible to pay the fees in cash, by card, or by a bank transfer.
Can I pay in other currency?
Apart from paying in CZK, you can also pay in euro (EUR). When paying in EUR, pay the equivalent of the fee according to the current exchange rate, for the day in which your Tuition fee order (letter) was dated - as specified by the Czech National Bank (look for declared FX rates).
What are the bank account numbers?
You will find the payment information in Tuition fee letter which will be sent to you after you have been accepted.
What is the difference between part-time and full-time modes of study?
Full-time students can after admission apply for a scholarship and are required to attend school daily.
Part-time mode of study is available for doctoral students only. Part time-students cannot apply for a scholarship. With their supervisor, they agree on the dates of consultations, which must take place in the Czech Republic. You can work in your home country for the rest of the year. Please note that the fee for studying in both modes of study is identical.
What is the Recognition of the previous study?
Recognition is the process of comparing Czech and foreign education. In order for you to be accepted for study in the Czech Republic, your previous level of education acquired abroad needs to be evaluated against the Czech standards and degree structure for us to be able to assess if you are eligible for study at the level you are applying for at our university. For more info see this recognition info.
Once we receive your properly verified documents, the faculty will assess the application for recognition together with the documents. If we decide that your previous education can be recognized by TBU, we will ask you to pay a recognition fee of CZK 3,000 (or its equivalent in EUR) and, after we have received the payment, process your application (you can read how to make the payment in the previous link).
If we are unable to recognize your previous education, you will have to apply for your education to be recognized by another higher education institution in the Czech Republic which has received accreditation for a more similar study programme to the one you have studied and which you are asking to be recognized).
As the standard process of recognition of your foreign education is quite long and can take from one month to one year (in case of an appeal) we have introduced a faster version of the recognition process referred to as ASSESSMENT of previous foreign education for purpose of study at TBU.
ASSESSMENT of previous foreign education for purpose of study at TBU
This is a simpler, faster and cheaper process and you can easily apply for it directly while filling in the online application (on the Recognition page). If you choose the Assessment option with a fee of CZK 880.00 (approx. EUR 36.00), after submitting your application you will be redirected to a payment gate where you can pay the fee directly with a credit or debit card (or later by bank transfer).
During this faster assessment, we will then check if your payment arrived successfully at the university bank account and if yes, we will oversee your uploaded documents confirming your previously finished level of study (Secondary School-Leaving Certificate for Bachelor applicants, Bachelor Diploma and Transcript of Records for Master applicants and Master Diploma and Transcript of Records for Doctoral applicants).
If you are in your last year of study and you have not received your diploma yet, upload (instead of a Diploma or a School-Leaving Certificate) a confirmation from your current school (in English) stating that you are in your last year of study and specifying the approximate date when you will receive your diploma. After we have received this document, we will ask you to send the originals of documents (or their properly verified copies) to us by mail (at the latest, after you have been recommended for study by the admission committee) so we can assess them, approve your eligibility for further study at TBU, and start preparing the final admission documents for you (provided you have been recommended by the admission committee, of course).
If you have graduated from a degree programme at another university in the Czech Republic, just upload a scan of your Diploma and Diploma Supplement in your application
What is a Supervisor Statement?
Applicants for doctoral programmes at the Faculty of Management and Economics are required to upload a PDF file with a so-called Supervisor Statement. A sample supervisor statement can be downloaded here.
What is Supervisor Consent?
Applicants for doctoral programmes at some faculties (e. g. the Faculty of Multimedia Communications) are required to upload a PDF file proving that the chosen supervisor has agreed to supervise the applicant's dissertation. This can be a PDF containing a copy of an e-mail communication between the applicant and the supervisor.
Can I translate the required documents by myself or using an online translating service?
No. All translations must be done by a certified translator.
Can students apply for a scholarship?
All our English Degree programmes are considered self-paying study and even if the scholarship is awarded to the student, none of the students is excused from paying the annual tuition fee first (it is a necessary condition to be eligible for a scholarship), as the university will start scholarship payments only after the personal arrival of student for studies in Zlin and after the student has paid the tuition fee to the university bank account.
In order to be able to apply for a scholarship, a student must first go through the whole application process and must receive Final Admission for Study. Right after that they can apply for a scholarship by filling in and signing an application form and delivering it by email to the university coordinator (application forms are available from the International Office upon request ONLY for admitted students). Rector scholarships are awarded upon request to all first-year doctoral students in a total sum of CZK 96,000 (which is paid by monthly intervals in the amount of CZK 8,000 for the first 12 months of study - after the student personally arrives for studies to Zlin and after he/she pays the Tuition fee for the first year of study).
First-year students of bachelor's and master's degree programmes can apply for a rector scholarship of up to CZK 3,000 a month until the end of the first academic year of study (the academic year ends in August). They can apply for it also ONLY AFTER they have received their final admission documents (after they have been admitted).
Applications are reviewed by the Vice-Rector for International Relations and the Rector and scholarships will be awarded in justified cases and only if resources are available. However, due to the growing number of PhD. students and the fact that English Degree programmes are not financially supported by the Czech government, there are presently no funds for Master's and Bachelor's first-year scholarships and the situation is not expected to improve in the future.
Starting from the second year, degree students can apply for a scholarship from their faculty - usually based on their academic performance in their first year of study (ask the international faculty coordinator at your faculty what the conditions are and if and how you can apply).
